USCG lab identifies responsible party in NY/NJ tar ball pollution

A spill that happened on the evening of Nov. 22 during an oil transfer at an oil facility in Bayonne, N.J. has been identified as the source of an incident that subsequently saw tar balls discovered on the New Jersey coast from Sea Bright to Asbury Park, additional pollution discovered on the shoreline north of Coney Island Creek in the Gravesend Bay area of Brooklyn, as well as tar balls at Fort Wadsworth beach on Staten Island.

Vane Brothers fleet achieves 100% Subchapter M goal

Baltimore, Md., headquartered Vane Brothers reports that 100 percent of its tugboats have earned a valid Certificate of Inspection (COI) as part of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Subchapter M program, that sets federally regulated safety standards for “inspected towing vessels.”

Chesapeake Shipbuilding delivers 3,000-hp tug to Vane Brothers

Vane Brothers has taken delivery of the 3,000-hp 94’x32’x13′ Cape Fear, the 17th Maryland-built tugboat to join the Baltimore-based company’s expanding fleet.

Since 2008, 15 3,000-hp, model-bow tugs have been delivered to Vane by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md. Chesapeake has also constructed two 3,000-hp pushboats for Vane.

Chesapeake Shipbuilding launches push tug for Vane Brothers

Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp., Salisbury, Md., successfully launched the 94’x34’x10’6″ push tug Salisbury, the first of four sisterships for Vane Brothers, Baltimore. The new boat, designed by the shipyard, is Subchapter M compliant. Salisbury is scheduled to be delivered in July 2019.

The 3,000-hp boat is equipped with Caterpillar 3512 main engines, conventional shafts, rudders and flanking rudders. It will accommodate up to seven crewmembers and has large private and semiprivate quarters.

Morgan City, La.-based Conrad Shipyard has delivered its third of a new class of articulated tug-barges to Vane Brothers Company, Baltimore.

The ATB is made up of the 110’x38′ 4,400-hp tug Wachapreague and 403’x74’x32′, 80,000-bbl. barge Double Skin 803. The ATB is linked with a Beacon Finland JAK 700 coupling system.
