3 missing after tanker collides with fishing vessel

Three sailors are reported to be missing after a collision took place between the Russian-flagged tanker Glard 2 and the Turkish-flagged fishing vessel Dursun Ali Coskun during the early morning hours of Friday, January 10.

It is said that the collision occurred at the north side of the Istanbul Strait at around 0600 hours local time, causing the fishing boat to capsize and sink.

NTSB investigation: Decision to proceed in heavy weather leads to sinking

The NTSB issued an investigation report on the capsizing and sinking of Barge Dredge200 and a workboat while on Massachusetts Bay, in December 2018. The accident was a result of a poor judgement amid inclement weather conditions.

The incident

On December 2, 2018, about 0930 local time, the towing vessel Big Jake was underway in Massachusetts Bay towing five barges and two workboats when the tow broke apart.

As a result of the breakaway, the barge Dredge200 and the workboat R.E. Pierson 2 both sank.

The USCG rescued on January 7, Tuesday, two fishermen from the water when their vessel sank in Pamlico Sound, North Carolina, both suffering from hypothermia, with one of the rescuees losing their life despite the efforts at resuscitation. One dead, one missing after trawler sinks off Ireland

One fisherman lost his life and another one is missing after a trawler sank seven miles South of Hook Head, Ireland, on 4 January, according to data provided by Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Fishing vessel sinks in Norwegian Barents Sea
