Logistics provider FreightVana recently announced it has partnered with fintech provider AtoB to offer fleets a payment card and platform to manage driver spending over the road.

FreightTech Friday: Wabash sees success with trailers-as-a-service

Recently, FreightWaves spoke with Wabash Director of Strategic Programs Glen Stewart about the company’s trailers-as-a-service (TaaS) offering, designed to help increase asset uptime.

According to the company, it has secured a near 100% recovery rate for its customers’ damaged trailers in 2024. “If damaged, trailers are fixed immediately, or a loaner can be provided,” a Wabash representative told FreightWaves.

Wabash Q3 profits rise as revenue falls

A favorable product mix and strong results from parts and services, tanks and truck bodies helped Wabash post solid third-quarter earnings while dry van sales fell as consumer spending on goods slowed.

Wabash is realizing efficiencies from the multiyear reorganization of its business into two units — one for van and body production across first- to final-mile products and one that focuses on growing parts and service revenue.

Long-term supply deals like one Wabash announced with J.B. Hunt...

Trailer orders slow in January, suggest a return to normalcy

Trailer orders in January fell back significantly from a huge December. But the numbers suggest a return to normal order patterns after more than two years of disruption.

Manufacturers have plenty of pending orders to build, both trucks and trailers.

“Orders continue to flow in and we still have pent-up demand to fill,” Chris Hammond, executive vice president of sales for Great Dane, told FreightWaves.

“We are seeing some customers defer ordering in 2023 as the economy begins to slow down as talk...

Cummins sees billions from its hydrogen electrolyzer business

The New Power division at Cummins Inc. probably won’t break even before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization before 2027. But when it does, it may never look back. One reason is its investment in producing electrolyzers, a critical enabler to making hydrogen fuel for zero-emission long-haul trucking among myriad other uses.

IDTechEx forecasts the water electrolyzer market will grow over the next decade to $120 billion by 2033. By 2025, the firm estimates fivefold growth in electrolyzer...
