Wabtec to acquire Brazilian maintenance-of-way equipment supplier

Rail technology and equipment provider Wabtec plans to acquire Super Metal, a supplier of automated vehicles and equipment solutions headquartered in Brazil.

Pittsburgh-based Wabtec (NYSE: WAB) says the acquisition will complement a March 2021 purchase of maintenance-of-way (MOW) manufacturer Nordco and help expand its presence in international markets. Wabtec describes Super Metal as one of the leading companies in Brazil involved in MOW equipment.

Union Pacific signs record $1B deal with Wabtec to modernize locomotives

Union Pacific has signed a deal worth more than $1 billion for Wabtec Corporation to modernize 600 of its locomotives. The companies called it “the largest investment in modernized locomotives in rail industry history” in a Wednesday news release.

CN to utilize new Wabtec software providing network visibility

Canadian railway CN will be using new and advanced software from rail technology provider Wabtec that both parties say could be a major step toward network automation for the rail industry.

The software, called precision dispatch system, collects and analyzes data from all rolling stock, wayside device assets and positive train control in order to monitor network conditions and provide network visibility.
