Walmart+ won’t make Amazon quake, but that could be beside the point

Walmart Inc.’s (NYSE:WMT) planned Walmart+ service, which reportedly launches later this month with a $98 annual fee for same-day deliveries of groceries and general merchandise as well as fuel discounts, may not rain on Amazon.com Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) parade. And that may not matter.

The subscription-based initiative, first reported earlier this month by the online publication Recode, would expand a pure e-grocery delivery initiative that Walmart launched late last year. The new service will...

Massive rate rise on Pacific as lines “manipulate” capacity

Rate manipulation on the Pacific trades is being called out by shippers in the US as non-vessel operator and shipping consultant, Jon Monroe argues that the lines are engaging rate manipulation.

Today’s Pickup: Another ELD provider shuts down

ELD

Good day,

When the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate went into effect, there were more than 250 companies that self-registered their devices for compliance. Most expected that number to shrink over time, and it has. The latest company to abandon its ELD program is Continental.

The company announced it has stopped sales of its Roadlog product line. It will continue to support current users until Aug. 14, 2020, the company said, and provide transition assistance to other providers.

“Unfortunate...

Good day,

Workers from Amazon, Instacart, Whole Foods and Shipt are planning to walk off the job today  in a May Day rally that caps a month of protests by warehouse workers and delivery drivers over working conditions during the coronavirus pandemic.
