US East Coast port sees largest-ever boxship call
The Port of Charleston, South Carolina, on Tuesday marked the call of the largest boxship in the container gateway’s history.
The OOCL Iris, with capacity of 16,828 twenty-foot equivalent units and more than 1,200 feet in length, berthed at the Wando Welch Terminal, besting the previous mark by CMA CGM’s Marco Polo, when the 16,022-TEU ship called in May 2021.

Konecranes to equip South Carolina Ports
Konecranes has won an order from South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) for three Konecranes RTGs equipped with hybrid power packs. The cranes will be delivered in Q1 2020 to the Wando Welch Terminal, Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

“More cranes” is Charleston port’s priority
With the third and final wharf at Wando Welch Terminal now back in operation, the State Ports Authority is in the market for some new ship-to-shore cranes.
“We really want to be able to handle three 14,000 (container) ships at one time on that terminal,” said Jim Newsome, president and CEO of the authority that operates the Port of Charleston.
