Wärtsilä will supply systems for two more ammonia-fueled gas carriers

Ammonia doesn’t produce CO2, sulfur or particulate emissions when combusted, making it a prime candidate to be shipping’s new green fuel. There are currently no ammonia-fueled ships in operation, but Antwerp, Belgium, headquartered Exmar LPG BV hopes to be the first operator to have ships on the water burning the fuel: two ammonia-fueled gas carriers

In October last year, the company, a joint venture between Exmar and Seapeak (the former Teekay LNG), ordered what it says will be the first ever...

Wärtsilä develops solution for transporting captured carbon

Capturing and storing CO2 is an important strategy in efforts to reduce global CO2 emissions. But how do you get the captured carbon to where you store it? Wärtsilä has been working on one part of the solution and has conducted a study on the systems and solutions required for liquid CO2 carrier (LCO2) vessels.

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has developed a cargo tank design suitable for LCO2 applications, that was recently awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) by the classification society DNV.

As new...

Wartsila Awarded An AiP For Its LCO2 Suitable Cargo Tank

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has developed a cargo tank design suitable for LCO2 applications, which was recently awarded Approval in Principle (AiP), says an article published in their website.

LCO2 Carriers

The new LCO2 Carriers are an emerging concept and require detailed attention during conceptual level.

The total cargo capacity of the vessels is 7500 cbm, divided into two containment tanks, each of 3750 cbm. Wärtsilä has carried out an intensive engineering analysis to formulate an optimum design...
