The Switch secures contract for shaft generator drives on new aframax tankers

The Switch has secured a contract to supply single drives for shaft generators to be installed on four tankers currently under construction at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry in China’s Fujian Province.

The vessels, designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, are 113,600-dwt Aframax tankers powered by LNG dual-fuel engines.

Built for UK-based ship owner Union Maritime, these tankers are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2027.

WinGD’s X-DF engines achieve major methane slip reduction

Swiss marine power company WinGD has completed shop tests for its innovative variable compression ratio (VCR) technology.

The results confirm that the latest X-DF engines equipped with VCR technology significantly cut methane emissions, achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions comparable to high-pressure dual-fuel technologies. At the same time, these engines offer lower total system and fuel costs across various vessel applications.

WinGD secures order for 16 X-DF engines after late switch

Swiss marine power company WinGD has secured an order for 16 X-DF dual-fuel engines following a late-stage switch by a major ship owner.

The decision was driven by WinGD’s proven track record of reliable performance, continuous advancements in its X-DF technology, and successful deployment of the X-DF2.0 series earlier this year.

The order came late in the new building process due to concerns about the originally selected engines’ operational and delivery reliability. However, close collaboration...
