WinGD X-DF cuts methane slip in final VCR technology shop tests

Peter Krähenbühl, Vice President Product Centre, WinGD
Swiss marine power company WinGD has completed shop tests of its groundbreaking variable compression ratio (VCR) technology. The results confirm that methane reductions from new X-DF engines with VCR technology deliver similar ship greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to high-pressure dual-fuel technologies, while delivering a total system cost and fuel cost advantage for several vessel applications.

The VCR shop test was completed at Mitsui...

WinGD Launches New ‘Eco-Engines’ for Low Carbon Shipping

  • Engine technology company WinGD has launched a new dual fuel engine technology iCER to reduce methane slip, and other improvements for better combustion control.
  • The company sees the engine as a way for companies to maintain flexibility as new fuels come into operation.
  • The engine reduces the reactivity of the gas-air mixture by replacing oxygen in the suction air by CO2.
  • The iCER system is replacing oxygen in the combustion with CO2 by default.
