Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine (GGZEM) announced the beginning of construction of the ‘Water-Go-Round’, the first-of-its-kind hydrogen fuel cell boat,  representing a global paradigm for the advantages of hydrogen fuel cells in the commercial maritime industry. When launched in mid-2019 the Water-Go-Round will be the first fuel cell vessel in the US and the first commercial fuel cell ferry in the world.

Celebrity Edge, the first ship to be completely designed in 3D, has already started its Translantic voyage this month. The vessel marks a turning point on ship design, as from the first sketches, every step was done in 3D. The vessel is one of the four Edge-class Celebrity Cruise’s ships that was launched in 2018. The company officially took delivery of Celebrity Edge from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France in November 2018.

World’s first LNG-powered high-speed catamaran under construction in Spain

Spanish ferry operator Baleària announced construction of the world’s first fast passenger and cargo ferry powered by dual-LNG engines, being built in the Armon de Gijón shipyard. With a length of 125 meters and a beam of 28 meters, the new catamaran will have capacity for 1,200 passengers and 500 cars (or alternatively 500 linear meters of trucks and 250 cars), which also makes it currently ‘the longest and highest-capacity fast ferry catamaran’.

Delivery of world’s first LNG cruise ship delayed

German shipyard Meyer Werft informed that it will delay the delivery of AIDAnova, the world’s first LNG fueled cruise ship. Before this announcement, AIDA Cruises was planned to receive the cruise ship on November 15, in Bremerhaven.

As Meyer Werft said, AIDAnova is a very complex, innovative ship with many new technical developments. It also presents a challenge for commissioning and testing.

World’s first LNG Aframax crude oil tanker completes first voyage

On 22 October 2018, Sovcomflot’s crude oil tanker ‘Gagarin Prospect’, which runs on LNG, completed its voyage across the Baltic and North Seas from Primorsk to Rotterdam. First International Maritime Cyber Centre of Excellence opens in Singapore

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä announced the opening of an International Maritime Cyber Centre of Excellence (IMCCE) in Singapore, on 16 October. The IMCCE is the first of its type for the marine industry, founded by Wärtsilä and Templar Executives, to provide a focal point for the industry to help drive the cyber awareness and response to cyber incidents. World’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova, has been successfully transferred to Eemshaven, Netherlands. The 180,000 tonne ship was transferred along the river Ems.

On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.  AIDAnova passed the dock gate in Papenburg, the Friesen-bridge near Weener and then the Jann-Berghaus-bridge in Leer.

World’s first LNG cruise ship starts its first voyage

On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship will now be transferred on the river Ems to Eemshaven, Netherlands.

AIDAnova passed the dock gate in Papenburg, the Friesen-bridge near Weener and then the Jann-Berghaus-bridge in Leer.

The cruise ship is planned to arrive in Emden and moor in Eemshaven on October 10 morning, as Meyer Werft informed.

When AIDAnova arrives in Eemshaven, it will undergo the final sea trials.
