The world’s first electric and self-propelled container ship – Yara Birkeland – has departed for its maiden voyage in the Oslo fjord. Today, the Norwegian Prime Minister was given a tour by CEO of Yara, Svein Tore Holsether.

A Norwegian enterprise has designed a one-of-its-kind autonomous, zero-emission cargo ship – the world’s first zero-emission and crewless vessel.

World’s First Autonomous & Zero-Emission Container Ship ‘Yara Birkeland’ Delivered.

The world’s first autonomous and zero-emission ship was handed over to Yara from the Norwegian shipyard Vard Brattvåg.

The vessel will undergo testing for container loading and stability before the ship will sail to a port and test area in Horten for further preparations for autonomous operation.
