ZIM’s financial recovery continues with strong Q3 results

Israeli ocean carrier ZIM has announced a net income of US$1.13 billion in the third quarter of 2024, while the company reported a US$2.27 billion loss in the same period last year.

Similarly, ZIM achieved EBITDA of US$1.53 billion in the third quarter, representing a year-over-year increase of 626% and operating income (EBIT) of US$1.23 billion, compared to an operating loss of US$2.28 billion in the third quarter of 2023.

ZIM updates PSS from Far East to Med, Black Sea and North Europe

Israeli container carrier ZIM has updated its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from Far East to East Mediterranean, West Mediterranean, Black Sea, excluding Russian trades, and North Europe.

ZIM and MSC announce new cooperation in Transpacific trade

ZIM and MSC have signed a new agreement for six Asia to US East Coast and US Gulf Coast services, scheduled to commence in February 2025.

The three-year agreement between the two ocean carriers includes slot swap and vessel sharing agreements, including six services connecting Asia with the US East Coast, West Coast of Mexico, Caribbean ports and US Gulf ports.

Liner operators’ margins hit post-Covid peak

Alphaliner’s report today (4 September) stated that margins for the nine largest liner operators topped 20% in Q2 2024, the highest since the Covid-19 pandemic, as the tonnage overhang was absorbed by the Red Sea crisis.

As in the early days of the pandemic, carriers with strong spot exposure to Far East exports performed best in the latest quarter. Taiwanese operator Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) has the highest margin, at 30.7%, after operating profit of US$1 billion.
