Suez Canal Container Terminal receives new cranes

The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) reached a significant milestone in its expansion project with the arrival of the vessel Zhenhua 35 in November, which carried the first shipment of equipment needed for terminal expansion, including four Super Post-Panamax ZPMC Quay Cranes.

US warns of cyber threat from China container cranes

The U.S. Coast Guard issued an additional warning to American ports of potential security risks posed by container cranes made in China. 

The new MARSEC Directive 105-5 sets out additional cyber risk management requirements for ship-to-shore cranes made by Chinese companies.

The directive follows a previous mandate for security measures issued in February.

Port of Virginia gets new cranes, chassis pool upgrade

The Port of Virginia has announced the delivery of the first of four new ship-to-ship cranes to be installed at the East Coast container gateway.

The port said the new 170-foot cranes will double the number of ultra large container vessel (ULCV) berths at Virginia International Gateway, for ships carrying more than 14,500 twenty-foot equivalent units.

Is China spying on American ports?

On Feb. 29, the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., sent a strongly worded letter to an obscure Chinese equipment manufacturer: Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. (known as “ZPMC”). Global Ports expands VSC’s fleet with three new straddle carriers
