According to a European Commission study, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) boost the Blue Economy, as well as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism and coastal areas. The study also says that the benefits of MPAs do not obstruct the achievement of conservation objectives.
According to the study MPAs can deliver conservation and economic benefits, while not impeding conservation goals. However, the economic exploitation of resources in an MPA must be sustainable.
