After focusing on the empowerment of women in the maritime community this year, the IMO Council selected “Sustainable shipping for a sustainable planet” as the World Maritime theme for 2020, in a bid to raise awareness of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The IMO Council, meeting for its 122nd session at IMO Headquarters in London on 15-19 July, endorsed the theme, following a proposal by IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim.
