Polar Tankers Trials 3D-Printed Parts Onboard Oil Tanker

A manufacturing consortium including ABS, Sembcorp Marine and 3D Metalforge have fitted enhanced 3D printed parts to a ConocoPhillips polar oil tanker.
The consortium used additive manufacturing (AM, also known as 3D printing) to make three types of parts.
According to ABS, a rigorous testing process showed that the 3D-printed replacements are of higher quality than conventionally manufactured products.
