Retrofitted inland vessel cleared to sail the Rhine on hydrogen

Rotterdam-headquartered Future Proof Shipping B.V. (FPS), which is retrofit the 110 meter by 11.45 meter inland container vessel Maas to a zero-emissions hydrogen propulsion system, has cleared a regulatory hurdle.

The Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) has recommended that the Maas receive an exemption from the Rhine Vessel Inspection Regulations (RVIR) to permitting the use of hydrogen as a fuel for propulsion and power supply on board the vessel.
