Coast Guard rescues mariner in distress

The Coast Guard reportedly rescued a distressed mariner during a multiunit response that was about 6 miles to the west of the Columbia River mouth on 3 February. Crew members of the Station Cape Disappointment and the National Motor Lifeboat School, with aircrew of the Advanced Helicopter Rescue School (AHRS), reportedly responded to the distress call of the mariner.

This was the first life John “Branch” Walton, the Petty Officer, saved. He is a student of AHRS and a rescue swimmer.
