CMB.TECH and WinGD move ahead on ammonia-fueled bulkers

CMB.TECH, the clean tech division of Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), and CSSC group member WinGD have signed an agreement that will see WinGD X72DF‑A ammonia-fueled engines power a series of 210,000 dwt bulkers to be delivered through 2025 and 2026 to CMB Group member Bocimar. Other signatories to the agreement are CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding (QBS), which will build the ammonia-fueled bulkers, and CSSC Engine Co (CSE), which will build the engines.

A Japanese project aimed at trialing an ammonia-fueled tugboat — the A-Tug — in the port of Yokohama by FY2024 has reached an important milestone. It has now gained an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the tug’s design from ClassNK.

Plan for Scandinavian ammonia bunkering network moves ahead

Norwegian fertilizer giant Yara International, which is one of the world’s largest ammonia producers, is starting to make good on its commitment to make carbon-free ammonia fuel bunkering a reality. It has pre-ordered 15 floating ammonia fuel bunkering terminals from Azane Fuel Solutions.

Vard wins order for new series of robotic ships

Ocean Infinity, the Austin, Texas, company building an “armada” of robotic ships, has contracted Fincantieri’s Vard subsidiary for the design and construction of a new series of six multipurpose offshore vessels, all of which will be operated from shore and will eventually utilize green ammonia as fuel.

Ammonia-fueled cargo ship gains DNV approval

U.K.-based AFC Energy reports that DNV, has now awarded its Approval in Principle (AiP) status for the ZeroCoaster ammonia fueled cargo ship, confirming an independent assessment that the ship’s design is feasible and there are no obstacles to the design being commercially realized.
