In mid-April, Conrad Shipyard, Morgan City, La., delivered a 6,000-hp towboat to Canal Barge Company Inc. (CBC), New Orleans. Built at Conrad Amelia, the 166’x49’x12’4″ Subchapter M-compliant H. Merritt ‘Heavy’ Lane Jr. is powered by Tier 4-compliant EMD 12ME23B engines. The engines are each rated at 3,000 hp (2,238 kW) at 900 rpm.

Conrad Shipyard starts production on second 6,000-hp inland towboat

Conrad Shipyard, Morgan City, La., has started production on a second 6,000-hp inland towboat designed by MiNO Marine, New Orleans. The Subchapter M compliant vessel measures 166’x49’x12′ and is powered by Tier IV compliant engines. Conrad christens fourth new oceangoing tug for Hawaii

Conrad Shipyard, Morgan City, La., christened the 123’x36’6″, twin-screw oceangoing tug Kāpena Bob Purdy for Young Brothers Ltd, Honolulu, a subsidiary of Foss Maritime Co. The ceremony was held at Conrad Amelia in Amelia, La. on May 4.

The Damen USA-designed tug is powered by twin GE 8L250 engines turning 6,000 hp. Additional equipment specifications were not released.

The ATB is made up of the 110’x38′ 4,400-hp tug Wachapreague and 403’x74’x32′, 80,000-bbl. barge Double Skin 803. The ATB is linked with a Beacon Finland JAK 700 coupling system.
