Two new berths to be added at COSCO PSA terminal in Singapore

COSCO SHIPPING Ports and PSA Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, November 21, for two additional berths at Cosco-PSA Terminal (CPT) in Singapore.

With the launch of the two new berths, CPT will have five mega-vessel berths, and will increase tits capacity from 3 million TEU a year to 5 million TEU.

Fuel leak reported in Yilport as container ship hits pier

The container ships ‘MSC Katyanim’, carrying the Panamanian flag, hit a pier in Yılport, Turkey, on November 19, as it was berthing. As a result of the incident, fuel leak was detected from the ship’s tank.

When ‘MSC Katyanim’ reached Yilport, docked at the berth, but it hit a pier. After this, a fuel leak took place from the container ship’s fuel tank.

China upgrades boxships on Yangtze River

China has put a new container ship with a capacity of 1,140 standard containers into service on the country’s longest river, the Yangtze, as part of an upgrade of vessels on the waterway.

The ship was commissioned to go on route between the port of Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province, to the Yangshan Deep Water Port in Shanghai on the river’s estuary, on Friday. The route is about 1,000 km long.

Maersk, IBM face problems with blockchain project

New digital seafreight platform launched to help container shipping

Kuehne + Nagel announced that it will expand its digital seafreight platform Sea Explorer. It will now become a smart gateway for all liner services in container shipping, offering smart connections to a number of ports.

AMSA to deploy underwater drones to assess containers lost from YM Efficiency

APL Florida 8136 will phase out of service in Singapore on the 5th of November 2018 and will be replaced by the Mary 0NNS2W1MA.

Container volumes continued to grow at Port of Rotterdam

In the first three quarters of 2018, total throughput in the Port of Rotterdam was 0.4% less than in the same period the previous year. However, container volumes continued to grow at a higher pace than the first nine months of 2017.

On the other hand, wet and dry bulk declined in volume, despite the fact that LNG and biomass were two positive outliers within these product segments.

Overall, 350 million tonnes of cargo were handled, a decrease of 1.5 million tonnes compared to last year.

Container traffic at Port of Gothenburg up by 20%

Freight volumes at the Port of Gothenburg increased during 2018, as container traffic, car figures and energy product flows all increased, when compared to the same time last year.

As a matter of fact, container traffic increased by 20% compared with the last year, while energy product flows remained consistently strong. In addition, rail traffic also increased by 7%.
