Watch: AIDAnova transferred through river Ems

World’s first LNG cruise ship, AIDAnova, has been successfully transferred to Eemshaven, Netherlands. The 180,000 tonne ship was transferred along the river Ems.

On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.  AIDAnova passed the dock gate in Papenburg, the Friesen-bridge near Weener and then the Jann-Berghaus-bridge in Leer.

In Eemshaven, AIDnova will undergo the final sea trials.

AIDAprima, AIDAperla receive software for engine maintenance

Zeppelin Power Systems announced that it has extended its agreements for AIDAprima and AIDAperla. The cruise ships’ engines will now include the software ‘Cat Asset Intelligence’ (CAI). This software analyzes the operating parameters and enables a service support.

CAI was installed on board the ships and provides automated system analyses and reporting based on data analysis. An onboard module, connected to the respective onboard devices and sensors delivers, analyzes data in real time.

World’s first LNG cruise ship starts its first voyage

On October 8, AIDA Cruises’ newest ship AIDAnova departed the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship will now be transferred on the river Ems to Eemshaven, Netherlands.

AIDAnova passed the dock gate in Papenburg, the Friesen-bridge near Weener and then the Jann-Berghaus-bridge in Leer.

The cruise ship is planned to arrive in Emden and moor in Eemshaven on October 10 morning, as Meyer Werft informed.

When AIDAnova arrives in Eemshaven, it will undergo the final sea trials.

Ireland rejects proposal to accommodate homeless in cruise ship

Ireland rejected the proposal by Dublin to house some of the city’s homeless people on a cruise ship, in an attempt to mitigate a severe housing shortage. The Irish government rejected the proposal as ‘unsuitable’.

The city wanted to house up to 150 homeless people on a cruise ship, to get them off the streets, however this would not be ideal for homeless families, Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy noted.

Dubrovnik announces limit on cruise ship arrivals

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik announced the launch of new measures in order to manage overtourism from cruising. Namely, more and more tourist are choosing to cruise in Dubrovnik, causing congestion. As a result, the city decided to limit the cruise ships docking at its piers to two, beginning next year.

The two cruise ships docking mean that a total of 5,000  visitors will be allowed into Dubrovnik per day.

Genting Hong Kong to retrofit three ships with scrubbers

Genting Hong Kong, cruise operator, informed that it will buy scrubbers as a measure to comply with the upcoming IMO 2020 sulphur cap. Specifically, the company will retrofit three of its ships with exhaust gas cleaning systems.

Genting Hong Kong will add scrubbers to three ships and LTH-Baas will do the retrofits, as the cruise operator paid the company EUR 69.1 million (USD 79.4 million).

Panama Canal expects 234 cruise ships this season

Fines total $100,000 over L’Austral’s first grounding
