Why LTL shippers need additional insurance coverage

Claims are a common source of frustration for most regular less-than-truckload shippers. Due to LTL carrier limitations and exclusions, shippers with damaged cargo often recover from $5 per pound down to as little as 10 cents per pound and are left without any viable avenue to recoup their losses.

The nature of LTL makes preventing cargo damage difficult. Shipments are touched and transferred between trailers via forklift often, creating the potential for mishaps at every turn.

Echo Global Logistics, a top provider of technology-enabled supply chain management services, rejects a one-size-fits-all approach to technology. A modern approach to logistics demands flexibility

Transportation has seen a tremendous influx of new technologies after the pandemic exposed its weakest links. Now the industry is competing on a rapidly growing digital playing field.

But as shippers and carriers begin to fully utilize digital freight technology, it’s evident their needs are becoming more nuanced.

Simply having technology is no longer an advantage. Just as shippers and carriers vary in size and complexity, so too should the technology that automates their processes.

“The...

Enterprise fleets achieve growth with brokers of choice

What does it take to become a broker of choice?

Of the array of integrations, apps and services that today’s 3PLs offer, fleets only value those that can actually support fleet growth.

Jay Gustafson, executive vice president of brokerage operations at Echo Global Logistics, appeared on FreightWaves’ WHAT THE TRUCK?!? to discuss the signs that a broker’s technology can support the growth of an enterprise fleet in any market.

“A broker of choice is someone that offers a flexible approach to how a...

What are RFP expectations for 2022?

2021, like the year before, has been marked by great uncertainty and has disrupted logistics networks. This has made planning and budgeting especially difficult for shippers affected by supply chain shortages and port congestion, but the show must go on.

What’s in store for 2022? If only we knew — but we can get an idea of what the industry expects.

In speaking with many of its shipping partners, Echo Global Logistics found market expectations to be mixed. That, in turn, has shippers implementing...

Technology combined with relationships form ultimate transportation solution

The unpredictable nature of logistics today leads too often to blind trust in technology. It’s understandable, given that transportation management systems on the market purport to offer one-size-fits-all solutions.

However, the needs of each carrier and shipper vary drastically, so it’s illogical to expect that a TMS or mobile app would be able to resolve every transportation management-related process or issue. But the plug-and-play concepts of much of today’s freight technology leads many to...

Managed transportation takes complexity out of logistics

How would you describe the state of the freight industry? Some might say it’s congested or fragmented, while others say it’s complicated. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t overwhelmed by the complexities.

In this age, when FreightTech promises an easier tomorrow, the reality is rather ironic, as even those with the latest technology achieve very little without expertise. Success in this industry comes not from working harder, but from working smarter, since you can’t beat expertise.

Lumber prices keep tight grip on shippers and importers

For lumber suppliers, the tight supply and mile-high price of lumber that impacted construction projects nationwide this spring continue to cause frustration. But builders and homeowners remain optimistic as prices have since fallen to $479 per thousand board feet, down 68% since peaking in May at an all-time high of $1,515. Fortune reported that prices have dropped for the ninth consecutive week.

It’s unlikely that lumber prices will return to pre-pandemic levels, but whether they will continue...
