Explosion reported at Irving Oil’s New Brunswick refinery

Irving Oil confirmed that a ‘major incident’ took place at Canada’s largest refinery, after an explosion was reported at the facility. The refinery’s workers have all been accounted for, and the site of the incident is now isolated and contained.

The explosion reportedly rocked the area around the Irving Oil refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. However, it was not immediately clear what the impact was.

IMO Sec-Gen commemorates Sanchi victims in Iran

​IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim visited the Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the country’s national celebration of World Maritime Day, on 8 September. Lessons learned from deadly explosion during tank cleaning

Hong Kong Marine Department shared valuable lessons learned from a violent explosion that occurred at the port side manifold on main deck of an oil/chemical tanker during cargo tank cleaning operation. The incident resulted in one death and five other injuries. The statement advised that all crew of oil/chemical tankers should familiarize themselves with the cargo manifold piping arrangement and follow the ship instruction on handling leaky valves of cargo pipeline.
