Bangladesh shippers hard hit by low-sulphur bunker fuel surcharges

Shippers in Bangladesh sending a 40ft container from Chittagong to the deepsea transhipment hubs of Colombo and Singapore must pay a $100 per  box bunker adjustment factor (BAF) low-sulphur surcharge.
“Some operators have been collecting the surcharge since December and some in January to adjust the fuel oil price hike,” said Iqbal Hassan, general manager of local ship agency and customs brokerage QC Shipping.
He added that from Chittagong to Europe and the …

All the links in your supply chain need to be secure against cyber attacks

Cyber security attacks happen almost daily, impacting SMEs to multinational corporate companies.
The majority of the attacks and data breaches can be found coming from the same place – through the supply chain, where security can become weak and mismanaged. Or, directly through people that work as part of a supply chain using their home network as an entry point to their world of work.

From January, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate a thrice-weekly service between Manchester and Dhaka, using a 787, via the …

India’s container trade slumps amid ripples from tariff tussles

India’s container trade growth plummeted in the second quarter, highlighting the country’s faltering economy and the increasing impact of global trade tensions.
According to Maersk’s latest India trade report, second-quarter container growth fell 1% year on year, while imports grew just 2% and exports remained flat.
“It reflects a broad-based slowdown across key economic sectors,” said Steve Felder, managing director of Maersk South Asia.
“Amid increasing global volatility, a slower local...

US container import volumes continued to surge over the summer, ahead of more tariff hikes on consumer goods.

Anyone looking out for a new set of Nikes may be best off combing the beaches of the UK, where trainers “in their hundreds” have been washing up over the past year. Supply chain radar: Headhunting Panalpina staff – bulls vs bears

While trying to determine whether the M&A wind blowing from the west could alter the plans of freight forwarders and logistics companies in the east*, I continued to seek guidance about what could be next for the Panalpina (PAN) organisational matrix and its many talented employees, because DSV provided us very little detail in regard to its upcoming integration plans.
(*Currently high on on my radar in the top 20 in …
