The Liberian Registry has named Commander Norm Witt (USCG, retired) its vice president, port state control affairs.

In this role, Witt will be responsible for coordinating and building professional relationships with various PSC (port state control) entities including the United States Coast Guard to better support the registry’s clients. Through this position, Witt can assist ship owners and operators through inspections or other obstacles they might face.

2 firefighters killed in car carrier blaze at Port Newark

Two firefighters died while fighting a blaze aboard a Grimaldi roll-on/roll-off vessel berthed at Port Newark in New Jersey Wednesday night. 

Emergency personnel from the Port of New York and New Jersey as well as the New York and Newark fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a blaze aboard the Grande Costa d’Avorio that reportedly broke out at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Carrier transporting luxury cars to US still smoldering in Atlantic

Two large tugs with firefighting equipment were expected to reach a car carrier smoldering off the coast of Portugal on Monday. The Felicity Ace was bound for the United States reportedly bearing Audis, Bentleys, Lamborghinis and Porsches when a fire broke out Wednesday in the Atlantic Ocean about 90 miles southwest of the Azores.
