Höegh Autoliners in strategic partnership with biofuel supplier VARO

Shipping’s customers, including auto manufacturers, are looking to wring carbon out of their supply chains. Leading car carrier operator, Oslo-headquartered Höegh Autoliners has plans for its next-generation of ships to operate on zero-carbon ammonia. Meantime, with ammonia still a while away, it has entered into a strategic partnership with Swiss-based VARO Energy aimed at advancing decarbonization through the supply of advanced biofuels for deep-sea transportation from Europe.

MacGregor secures major order for Höegh Autoliners PCTCs

MacGregor, a division of Cargotec, has secured a significant order to provide comprehensive RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) equipment for an additional four Aurora class Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) by Höegh Autoliners.

These vessels, designed to accommodate multi-fuel and zero-carbon technologies, will expand Höegh Autoliners’ newbuilding programme for the Aurora class to a total of twelve ships, all to be constructed by China Merchant Heavy Industries (Jiangsu).

Höegh Autoliners could be bunkering clean ammonia in JAXPORT by 2027

Höegh Autoliners and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on the supply and delivery of clean ammonia as a next-generation sustainable maritime fuel for Höegh’s upcoming Aurora Class PCTC vessels. The agreement will see them look into the supply of clean ammonia as a bunker fuel at the ports of Singapore and Jacksonville, Fla. (JAXPORT) from 2027 onwards.

Maersk sells remaining shares in Norway’s Hoegh Autoliners

Danish shipping company AP Moller-Maersk has sold 20 million shares in Norway’s Hoegh Autoliners, cutting its holding to zero, according to a stock exchange filing.

The sale at a price of 90 Norwegian crowns (US$8.43) per share represented approximately 10.48% of the share capital and votes in Hoegh Autoliners, said the Norwegian RoRo transportation service provider.

Therefore, Maersk sold all of its shares in the Scandinavian car carrier for 1.8 billion Norwegian crowns (around US$170 million).
