A spokesperson for Maersk told The Loadstar: “Customers had been contacting us about using Hull instead of Immingham as apparently it is easier to gain access.

Supply chain radar: What price will the Long Beach Terminal sale really fetch?

I have wondered how to value certain “strategic” infrastructure assets in the shipping world ever since we reported last year that COSCO appeased US security concerns over its acquisition of OOIL and its container arm OOCL by agreeing to concede ownership of the OOCL-operated Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) to a US trust pending its sale to a third party.
That sale now is expected to complete by mid-2019, so it seems …

Why logistics will be key to any US conflict with Russia and China

While commercial supply chains are normally our focus at The Loadstar, there are sometime logistical issues in other theatres that are so interesting as to warrant notice. This article by US geopolitical analyst Stratfor is a case in point, depicting the considerable supply chain challenges the US military would have were it to find itself waging war against a resurgent Russia or increasingly confident China: “The US benefits greatly from …
