EC launches new probe into ‘dubious’ Italian port tax exemptions

The European Commission’s competition watchdog has launched an in-depth investigation into tax exemptions granted to Italian port authorities.
The move comes a year after the EC launched an initial probe into tax exemptions granted by the governments of Spain and Italy to port authorities.
Last year, the Spanish government amended its tax arrangements for port authorities “to the normal corporate income tax rules, as from 2020”. However, Italy did not follow suit.

Felixstowe engineers vote for Christmas strike action over staff transfer plan

The UK’s largest container port is set to be hit by industrial action over Christmas, after engineers at Felixstowe voted to strike over plans to transfer their employment to an outside company.

Hutchison to acquire APMT’s Maasvlakte box terminal, and promises no redundancies

Hong Kong-headquartered port operator Hutchison is set to consolidate control of the container facilities on Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte Delta site by agreeing to acquire the APM Terminals facility at the port.
