Lion Electric to go public in SPAC merger

Canadian electric truck and bus manufacturer The Lion Electric Company said Monday it intends to go public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger in a move that will help fund its first U.S. manufacturing facility. 

Quebec-based Lion plans to combine with blank check company Northern Genesis Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: NGA) and then be listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker LEV. It expects to raise about $500 million from the transaction.

Ready to roar: Lion Electric delivers first trucks next month

Lion Electric Co. plans to deliver its first battery-powered electric trucks in October as high-profile orders from CN and Amazon buoy the Canadian manufacturer. 

The Quebec-based company plans to have at least 50 of its Class 6 and Class 8 trucks in service by the end of the year, including two of 10 to Amazon. Production at Lion’s Montreal-area plant is ramping up to fulfill what the company says are hundreds of orders.

CN orders 50 electric trucks from Lion Electric

CN (NYSE: CNI) has ordered 50 electric trucks from Canadian supplier Lion Electric Co. for intermodal operations in its largest urban markets, the companies announced Monday.

The Canadian railway plans to deploy the trucks in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, CN JJ Ruest said during a news conference in Montreal. They will perform urban deliveries, container shuttle service and port operations.
