A Prologis and MIT study said that 2020 was the most environmentally friendly holiday season yet.

A stay-at-home economy helped 2020 deliver the “most environmentally friendly holiday season yet,” according to a Prologis and MIT special report released Thursday. 

Based on consumer behaviors, in-person shopping was compared to e-commerce to find differences in environmental impacts. The study said that one full standard delivery van can replace over 100 individual car trips to the store.

Cargojet adds capacity for DHL to meet e-commerce surge

Canadian for-hire carrier Cargojet Inc. (TSX: CJT) has increased its workload for DHL Express, servicing three additional international routes with Boeing 767-300 freighters to meet demand for e-commerce deliveries, the company announced Tuesday. 

Toronto-based Cargojet will fly packages between Cargojet’s hub in Hamilton, Canada, and the DHL Express hub in Cincinnati, continuing to Monterrey, Mexico, and DHL’s East Midlands hub in the United Kingdom.

Pitney Bowes pushes `flat’ peak delivery surcharges

Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE:PBI), which provides global parcel consolidation services, will impose a peak season surcharge not exceeding $1.50 per parcel on holiday traffic tendered for delivery.

The surcharge will apply to all domestic and cross-border parcel shipments covering both forward shipments and returns, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company said late Thursday. FedEx’s peak shipping surcharges go in different direction than UPS

FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) disclosed its upcoming peak shipping season surcharges on Tuesday, and tweaked its surcharge language in an effort to set it apart from its chief rival, UPS Inc. (NYSE:UPS).

The FedEx surcharges will apply to customers that shipped more than 35,000 packages via FedEx Express and FedEx Ground in any week covering two separate periods: Oct. 5-18 and Nov. 16-29.
