Port of Kiel launches rail service to Italy through Lehrte MegaHub

Τhe German seaport of Kiel has unveiled plans to get additional capacity and faster connections in rail freight transport with the new service destined to Verona in Italy, via the rail terminal Lehrte MegaHub.

Already since the beginning of September, five new train pairs have been running weekly from Kiel in Alpine transit to Verona, via the German Lehrte MegaHub which is also connected with Duisburg, Munich and Ludwigshafen.

Cruise vessels at Ostseekai

The PORT OF KIEL is increasing its own production of climate-friendly solar energy. At the beginning of August, almost 300 photovoltaic modules were installed at the cruise terminal Ostseekai, on the roof of the 175 m long gangway to the northern berth.

The output of each PV panel is 335 watts, so that the calculated system output is nearly 100 kWp in total. The system can go into operation as soon as it has been approved by the authorities.

Stena Line Connects To Shore Power In Kiel; Reduces Emissions By Using 100% Green Electricity

Inauguration of the new shore power facility in Kiel means that Stena Line now have the possibility to connect 14 vessels at seven terminals with on-shore electricity during port stay. The new connection in Kiel will reduce the CO2 emissions from the two vessels Stena Scandinavica and Stena Germanica with 2,700 tonnes per year. In total Stena Line reduce its CO2 emissions with shore power with 13,000 tonnes per year.

Port Of Kiel Signs ‘Fjord 5G-Project’ LoI To Enable Passenger Ferries To Cruise Partly Autonomously
