Phase 2 of Liverpool2 container terminal expansion takes steps forward

McLaughlin & Harvey has been granted the contract to deliver the next phase of development at the Liverpool2 deep-water container terminal. The multi-million project will increase the footprint of the site and see the addition of ten cantilever rail mounted gantry cranes (CRMGs) and three ship-to-shore cranes (STS).

The STS cranes are planned to arrive in November 2019 with the overall project expected to be completed during 2021. Detailed design and preparatory civil works have already started.

Embassy representatives visit Port of Liverpool

Peel Ports has welcomed representatives from British Embassies from around the world for a tour of the Port of Liverpool L2 container terminal.

Peel Ports welcomed the Shadow International Trade Minister Judith Cummins MP to the Port of Liverpool on 31st May. The visit was arranged to showcase the port’s growing trading activity across the Atlantic and role as a significant contributor to the UK economy.

MSC Matilde boxship tilts at dock in Port of Liverpool

A total of 23 crew were safely evacuated from the container ship ‘MSC Matilde’, after the vessel reported a significant list in dock at the Port of Liverpool, UK, in the early morning hours of 24 May.

HM Coastguard was contacted by Peel Ports VTS at around 2.25 am Friday, to report that the ‘MSC Matilde was listing.

The general cargo vessel was reported to have 2,184 containers onboard, the majority of which were empty.
