WEC Lines launches new European service

Dutch company WEC Lines is beginning a new service connecting the Port of Liverpool with two major Portuguese ports and a new link with Spain.

According to the announcement, the new weekly service will begin in April and connect Liverpool with Setubal and Leixoes, using the 882 teu vessel, mv FRANCOP. The direct calls to Liverpool will import a range of Iberian products.

COSCO follows top lines, committing to Port of Liverpool

The world’s top five shipping lines are all now calling at Liverpool following confirmation that Chinese giant COSCO Shipping is to ship via the port.

COSCO Shipping will take slots on an existing Canadian service via Montreal with OOCL. It joins MSC, Maersk, CMA and Hapag in starting or growing a presence in Liverpool.

Peel Ports expands amid Brexit

Privately owned Peel Ports is expanding its workforce mostly in Liverpool and plans acquisitions this year, its chief executive said, as Britain prepares its ports to ease any trade disruption caused by Brexit.

Liverpool rail services reduce road traffic

A rail freight service launched to transport containers from the Port of Liverpool to Scotland has been a major success, according to its operator Peel Ports, and has helped to minimise pressure on local roads.

Since launching in August 2018 the rail service has saved over half a million road miles being driven on the UK’s motorways. It has also resulted in a significant reduction in HGV movements around Seaforth, and saved around 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide in the process.

The 2M shipping line alliance has confirmed that Liverpool will become a permanent call on its TA4 service connecting Europe with several US ports.

Future of historic canal ship safeguarded

The future of one of Liverpool’s most significant historic vessels has been safeguarded for the next three years thanks to a £75,000 donation from Peel Ports.
