Marseille Fos port focuses on LNG bunkering operations

Port of Marseille Fos has announced its aim to become the liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub in the Mediterranean, following the completion of a second bunkering operation on 15 June, after a first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation in early May.

The Port of Marseille Fos, Costa and Shell repeated successfully the first bunkering operation, demonstrating the port’s ability to develop this type of refuelling operation.

Marseille aims to be Med’s first electric port

Among a string of new eco-friendly initiatives, the Marseille Fos port authority is to spend €20 million over the next six years to extend shoreside electrical connections for berthed vessels to every ferry, cruiseship and repair quay within the Marseille eastern harbour.

Already available on the Corsica ferry quays, the network will be expanded in two phases to cover North Africa ferry quays and the shiprepair hub by 2022 and the cruise terminal between 2022 and 2025.
