Shanghai hits 40 million TEU milestone as volumes grow at Chinese ports

From January to October 2024, Chinese ports handled a total of 276.4 million TEUs, reflecting a 7.6% year-on-year growth.

In October, Shanghai Port recorded a container throughput of 4.15 million TEUs, up by 3.8% compared to the same month last year, while Ningbo Zhoushan Port processed 3.31 million TEUs, marking a 12.9% year-on-year increase. Major box ports in China close to 150 million TEUs during 2023 H1

In the first six months of the year, the overall container volume of major Chinese ports rose 4.8% compared with the same period in 2022, reaching approximately 150 million TEUs.

At the same time, the overall cargo volume of the Chinese ports was around 8.1 billion tonnes in the first half of 2023, translating to a decrease of 8% year-on-year.
