Lloyd’s Register approves Seaspan’s ammonia-powered feeder vessel design

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Seaspan Corporation for its innovative dual-fuel ammonia-powered next-generation feeder ship design.

Developed by TECHNOLOG, this 3,100 TEU vessel, which is 198 meters long, will utilize ammonia as a fuel for its two-stroke main propulsion engine.

Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock in North Vancouver, B.C., has successfully completed the Vessel Life Extension (VLE) of the Canadian Coast Guard’s CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Seaspan enters into new shipbuilding contracts

Seaspan signed 27 shipbuilding agreements for newbuild container vessels with capacities ranging from 9,000 to 17,000 TEUs, according to a recent Atlas filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Hapag-Lloyd and Seaspan partner to retrofit five container ships
