Sri Lanka keen on enhancing connectivity with Indian ports

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is keen on enhancing connectivity with Indian ports using ferry services to facilitate easier trade and tourism, its chairman Kavan Ratnayaka said.

“If the two countries can set up a ferry service connecting Kankesanthurai port (KKS) in Jaffna with Karaikal near Puducherry, and similarly between Colombo and Tuticorin in south India, there is scope for increased trade activity and tourism,” he told The Hindu.

Colombo master plan to boost port’s performance

Port of Colombo marks significant volumes-increase in April

The Colombo Port container volumes indicates an increase in the month of April 2019 by 9.1% compared to the same period last year.

Together with the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) and the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT), the Port of Colombo’s cumulative Volume has increased by 5.9%.

Japan, India to support Sri Lanka in developing East Container Terminal

The government is gearing to fast-track the development of East Container Terminal (ECT) at the Port of Colombo jointly with Japan and India with the setting up of a terminal operating company (TOC), ensuring that the full ownership of ECT will remain with Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka to purchase new cranes to Jaya Container Terminal

Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka announced that Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) was in the process of purchasing three Ship to Shore (STS) cranes in view of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) 5 expansion.

SLPA accused of hiking prices without notice

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has landed an upward tariff revision on 1 January, increasing cost for exporters and importers allegedly without notifying the trade or the new Minister.
