As the human and economic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic mounts, America is adapting to   changes at dine-in restaurants, including travel plazas dotting the nation’s highways.

Playing catch-up: TravelCenters of America kick-starts franchising

TravelCenters of America (NASDAQ: TA) is pulling the franchise lever to grow its presence on the highway map.

Actively pursuing franchisees to take over existing truck stops is one of CEO Jon Pertchik’s approaches to growing the TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express travel center brands. A new TA Express franchise opened Wednesday in Mount Vernon, Texas.

TravelCenters of America begins reopening dine-in restaurants

TravelCenters of America (NASDAQ: TA) is slowly reopening dine-in restaurants at its travel plazas where allowed, but some changes forced by the COVID-19 pandemic may never be reversed.

“We have already undertaken rolling some locations on and we’re doing it in a prudent and self-disciplined way,” TA CEO Jon Pertchik said on a first-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

TravelCenters of America cuts 130 jobs in sweeping reorganization

TravelCenters of America (NASDAQ: TA) is cutting 130 corporate jobs as part of a sweeping reorganization announced Friday that adds new executives to oversee restaurants, gaming and convenience stores, corporate development and information technology.
