Attention drawn to HSFO de-bunkering as IMO 2020 came into force

As the IMO’s 2020 sulphur cap came into effect on 1st January, shipowners will be conscious that a charterer may be less likely to charter a vessel which still has a large quantity of HSFO onboard, the Standard P&I Club noted.

Regulation 14.1.3 of MARPOL Annex VI came into force on 1 January 2020, bringing, among others, the need for shipowners to de-bunker non-compliant fuel (HSFO with sulphur content in excess of 0.5% m/m).
