Paccar recalls 76,492 trucks because digital dash can freeze

Paccar Inc. is recalling 75,492 late-model Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks because the digital dash can freeze, preventing the system from updating and increasing the chance of a crash.

About 1% of recalled trucks probably have the issue, Paccar told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Affected 2022 and 2023 models include the Kenworth T680, T880 and W990 and the Peterbilt 365, 367, 389, 567 and 579.

External pressures drag out typical cycle for trailer orders

Vans with rear doors open for insopection ata Ritchies Brothers auction in Houstonn

It may or may not be a fundamental change, but the fall order season for trailer orders isn’t playing out like anything resembling the traditional opening of orderbooks.

Even the data analysts who track the industry landed miles apart on bookings in September.

ACT Research said its preliminary reporting showed net trailer orders were 25,700 units, up about 45% from August but around 10% lower than the same month last year.

FTR Transportation Intelligence pegged September bookings at 12,500, down...

8 questions on FMCSA’s UCR fees and how to comply

White trucks parked in a row

FMCSA collects UCR fees from motor carriers and other businesses for highway motor carrier registration and safety programs. The decrease is approximately 31% across all vehicle fleet sizes. The last time the fee decreased was for 2021 when it dropped...

ATRI: A trucker who crashes once is at high risk for another

Acar track crash with police

With near record-setting truck crashes, research shows that the handful of drivers convicted of failing to obey warning lights are 243% more likely to crash in the future.

Other forms of reckless driving more than doubled the likelihood of another accident. That’s according to the American Transportation Research Institute’s “Predicting Truck Crash Involvement: 2022 Update” released Tuesday.

A total of 4,965 people died in large-truck crashes in 2020, according to the National Safety Council....
