Pakistan well to be plugged and abandoned

The Kekra-1 exploration well is scheduled to be plugged and abandoned as the consortium didn’t unearth hydrocarbons in the area. Rystad Energy commented that in a major setback for Pakistan’s oil ambitions, as the much-awaited Kekra-01 well in the Arabian Sea turned out to be a duster.

Pakistan was positive and expected positive results from the well, which had a pre-drill resource estimate of about 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

EnscoRowan awarded $180 million in arbitration case

EnscoRowan, an offshore drilling company, announced it won $180 million in damages in arbitration proceedings against Samsung Heavy Industry stemming from a 2016 drillship case. Concerning the incident, in April 2016, the company, then known as Ensco, began arbitration proceeding against SHI for the losses incurred in connection with a drilling services agreement for ENSCO DS-5 that was voided Brazil’s Petrobras.

FERC greenlights Freeport LNG expansion

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gave the green light for the expansion of Freeport LNG project. The latter will build and operate its fourth natural gas liquefaction train, located at its LNG export facility on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas.

Specifically, the Train 4 project will involve construction of a liquefaction unit similar to Freeport’s other three units at the site, as well as associated pipelines, storage vessels and related facilities.

Technical notice on OSVs transferring up to 36 offshore workers

The Marine Safety Centre launched a Technical note 1-19 on ‘Guidance on the Carriage of Greater Than 36 Offshore Workers on Offshore Supply Vessels of Less Than 6,000 GT ITC’ to provide owners and operators of the OSVs with guidance when requesting to carry more than 36 offshore workers.

Firstly, these guidelines apply to all requests for the carriage of more than 36 offshore workers aboard OSVs measuring less than 6000 GT ITC.
